FACTORS AFFECTING THE NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF PREGNANT WOMEN IN IJEBU ODE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OGUN STATE
Abstract
The study examined the factors affecting the nutritional status of pregnant women in Ijebu Ode Local Government Area Ogun State. The study adopted the descriptive survey research designs using simple random sampling and proportionate techniques in selecting three hundred (300) respondents in Ijebu ode, Local Government Area, Ogun State, Twelve (12) research questions and hypotheses were raised for the study. Frequency counts and Simple percentage was used to analyze the demographic information of the respondents while Chi-Square was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Based on the findings, it was discovered that Dietary intake, Low income, Poverty, Access to healthcare , Education and awareness, Cultural beliefs/practices, Social status, Economic status, Availability of cash crops in the market, Family size, Seasonal variations and Environmental hygiene will significantly affecting nutritional status of pregnant women in Ijebu Ode Local Government. This study recommended that pregnant women should attend antenatal care regularly to receive proper nutritional guidance and monitoring and also pregnant women should learn how to express and store breast milk to maintain supply when separated from the baby.
