Abstract

This study was done to ascertain the synthesis of nickel nanoparticles from waste agricultural products such as cabbage and spinach. Nickel nanoparticles was synthesis from it and was detected using Uv spectrometer. The experiment involved the anaerobic digestion of waste agricultural products to produce biogas which indicates that waste agricultural products can be utilized for energy generation for household use and the potential for large scale use. The rising cost of conventional fuel in urban areas have necessitates the exploration of other cheap, renewable and sustainable alternative energy sources. It is inevitable that with large volume and high density waste produced in our daily activities. Investigations were made into the production of biogas from the mixture of spinach and cabbage dropping with nickel nanoparticles as co-substrate to ascertain which of the waste substrates produces a greater yield of biogas and a fabricate a locally made bio digester. This study showed that nickel nanoparticles can be synthesized from waste agricultural products and biogas synthesis can be increased with the use of nanoparticles. The digesters also proved effective for the production of biogas.
