EFFECT OF METAKAOLIN BLENDED CEMENT ON THE SPLIT TENSILE STRENGTH OF HIGH- STRENGTH CONCRETE
Abstract
This study evaluates the effect of Metakaolin-blended cement on the split tensile strength, density, and workability of high-strength concrete. Concrete mixes were prepared with 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% metakaolin replacements and tested at 7, 14, 28, and 56 days of curing. Material characterization using XRF, XRD, and SEM confirmed the pozzolanic potential of the metakaolin. Fresh concrete tests showed that 10% replacement achieved the highest workability, while higher percentages reduced it. Split tensile strength was highest at 5% replacement, with long-term strength improving at 10–20% levels. Overall, the results indicate that 5–10% metakaolin improves both the strength and microstructure of high-strength concrete, making it suitable for sustainable construction.
