Abstract

Abstract This research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of a novel Ni(II) mixed ligand complex incorporating two cephalosporin antibiotics, ceftriaxone and amoxicillin. The study employs spectroscopic, analytical, and physicochemical techniques to confirm the structural features and coordination behavior of the ligands with the Ni(II) ion. Antimicrobial assays were conducted to evaluate the biological activity of the complex against selected bacterial strains, comparing its efficacy to that of the free ligands. Results indicate that complexation enhances the antimicrobial potential, suggesting improved stability and bioactivity relative to the parent drugs. The findings highlight the significance of metal–drug interactions in medicinal chemistry and point to possible applications of Ni(II) complexes in the development of more effective antimicrobial agents.
