ANALYSIS ON THE EFFECT OF STUDY HABIT AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AMONG UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS IN ADAMAWA STATE UNIVERSITY, MUBI
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigated the impact of study habits on the academic achievement of undergraduate students at Adamawa State University, Mubi. Specifically, it examined the types of study habits adopted by students, analyzed how these habits influence academic performance, and assessed the challenges students face in maintaining effective study routines. Employing a survey research design, data were collected using a structured questionnaire from a purposively sampled 160 undergraduate students across various faculties. The study found that students predominantly engage in structured study practices such as consistent scheduling, group study sessions, and prompt review of lecture materials. However, challenges including environmental distractions, financial constraints, infrastructural limitations, and motivational issues were identified as significant barriers to maintaining effective study habits. Statistical analysis revealed a positive and significant relationship between quality study habits and academic achievement, with students exhibiting effective study behaviors outperforming their peers. The findings underscore the need for institutional support in fostering effective study strategies through workshops, improved access to learning resources, and counseling services aimed at overcoming motivational challenges. This research contributes to understanding how study habits affect academic success and offers practical recommendations for enhancing student performance at Adamawa State University and similar tertiary institutions
