THE CHALLENGES OF YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN POLITICS AND GOVERNANCE, THE ASSESSMENT OF “THE NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN LAW”

The main purpose of this study is to assess the challenges of youth participation in politics and government, the assessment of the not too young to run law. Three research questions guided the study, with one research hypothesis.
In this study, a survey research design was adopted, the population comprises all the young politicians in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, a simple random sampling technique was used to select 200 respondents for the study and a questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. Relevant literatures were reviewed which guided the objectives and methodology of this study. As result of the field study and analysis of results, the following findings were made: that the relevance of youth participation in politics and governance in the society is that it makes government policies youth friendly; they are the future of every nation; they help in making global relevance policies; they bring about economic reforms and they bring about political reforms.
It was recommended thatefforts should be made to increase the level of participants of the youth in politics. Also, there should be a law to limit the amount spend on political campaign.
