IMPACT OF WATER SCARCITY AND POLLUTION: PUBLIC POLICY SOLUTIONS FOR WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT AND CONSERVATION IN ADAMAWA STATE WATER BOARD
Abstract
This research work examines the impact of water scarcity and pollution, with a focus on public policy solutions for water resources management and conservation in Adamawa State Water Board. Water is a fundamental necessity, yet in many parts of Nigeria, especially Adamawa State, communities face increasing challenges due to insufficient clean water and pollution of existing sources. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. A total of 366 respondents were selected using simple random sampling. Questionnaires were administered, and the data was analyzed using frequency tables and percentages. The findings revealed that poor government policies, lack of infrastructure, and weak enforcement of environmental regulations have contributed significantly to water scarcity and pollution in the area. The study recommends that the government should strengthen the enforcement of environmental laws, invest in modern water infrastructure, and promote awareness on water conservation. The study concludes that effective public policy, community participation, and adequate funding are essential to addressing the water crisis in Adamawa State.
