SCREENING OF HEAPATITIS A, B AND C AMONG ALMAJIRIS IN TSANGAYA ACROSS MAIDUGURI METROPOLIS
Abstract
Prevalence of Viral Hepatitis A.B.C Infection and its assessment Among Almajiris in Tsangaya across Maiduguri Metropolis, Borno state was investigated. Blood samples were aseptically collected from 300 Almajiris. Rapid Test kits were used for the screening of Hepatitis A B and C. Risk factors relating to hepatitis were obtained using a questionnaire. A total of 0(0%), 2(2%) and 0(0%) subjects were positive for Hepatitis A virus, Hepatitis B virus and Hepatitis C virus respectively. Though the study was limited to Maiduguri Metropolis, the result revealed that Almajiris in Tsangaya across Maiduguri are significantly burdened with hepatitis B infection with overall prevalence of 0.66% for the 3 viruses studied.
