DIVERSITY AND ABUNDANCE OF FRESH WATER ALGAE IN FISH PONDS, UNIVERSITY OF MAIDUGURI
Abstract
This study investigates the diversity and abundance of freshwater algae in the Fisheries Department ponds at the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria. The research focuses on taxonomic identification, the relationship between algae and environmental factors such as pH, temperature, and nutrients, and the evaluation of ecosystem health. Findings experimentally demonstrated a 75% abundance of freshwater algae in the sampled ponds, with Diatoms showing a higher abundance than other identified classes. The results indicate thriving algal populations that contribute to the overall sustainability of the aquatic ecosystem.
