Abstract

In Nigeria today, the electricity power supply to consumers (at homes and industries) are not maintained at a stipulated voltage say 240 volts. But the electronic gadgets and some other power operated machines, that we use in our homes, offices and industries requires power with constant or nearly constant voltage for their efficiency, and to avoid damage by the voltage. The project "Design and Construction of a 5KVA Automatic Voltage Regulator for Domestic Appliances" aims to develop an efficient device that ensures the stable operation of household electrical appliances by maintaining a constant output voltage despite fluctuations in the input voltage. This regulator is designed to handle a load capacity of up to 5KVA, making it suitable for a wide range of domestic applications. The system comprises key components such as transformers, relays, integrated circuits, and control mechanisms that work in unison to detect and correct voltage variations. By automatically adjusting the output voltage to a stable level, the voltage regulator protects sensitive appliances from damage due to over-voltage or under-voltage conditions. The design process involved detailed calculations and simulations to ensure optimal performance and reliability. The constructed regulator was rigorously tested under various load conditions to validate its functionality and efficiency. The successful implementation of this project demonstrates its potential to enhance the longevity and performance of domestic appliances, offering a practical solution to voltage instability issues in residential settings.
