AN ASSESSMENT OF THE STRENGTH AND WEAKNESSES OF PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL ANALYSIS IN THE BORNO STATE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
Abstract
This study examined the strengths and weaknesses of performance appraisal
analysis within the Borno State Civil Services Commission. Recognizing the critical
role of public servants in achieving government objectives, the research highlights
the importance of effective performance appraisal systems in enhancing employee
productivity and organizational performance. The study employs a quantitative
research design, utilizing questionnaires to gather data from 100 employees across
various departments. Findings reveal that while the performance appraisal system
is perceived as fair and unbiased, the results are not effectively utilized for
employee development or career advancement. Additionally, the appraisal process
is conducted with the genuine aim of fostering professional growth. The study
concludes with recommendations for enhancing the utilization of appraisal results,
providing training for appraisers, establishing regular feedback mechanisms, and
promoting a culture of continuous improvement within the organization.
