THE EFFECT OF FRINGE BENEFITS ON EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE (IN UNIVERSITY 0F MAIDUGURI)
Abstract
This study examines the effect of fringe benefits on employee performance at the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria. Focusing on non-academic staff, the research investigates the influence of monetary, non-monetary, and workplace benefits on employee satisfaction, motivation, and productivity. A descriptive survey design was employed, with data collected from 357 respondents using structured questionnaires. The findings reveal that monetary benefits are the most valued by employees and significantly enhance job performance. Non-monetary and workplace benefits also play crucial roles in boosting morale and productivity, though room for improvement exists. The study concludes that a holistic and well-structured fringe benefits system is essential for improving employee performance and organizational effectiveness. Recommendations include periodic review of monetary incentives, expansion of non-monetary reward programs, and enhancement of workplace conditions to better align with employee needs and expectations.
