INCIDENCE OF INTESTINAL PARASITIC INFECTION AMONG PREGNANT WOMEN ATTENDING ANTENATAL CLINIC AT UMARU SHEHU ULTRA MODERN HOSPITAL MAIDUGURI

ABSTRACT incidence of intestinal parasitic infection among pregnant women attending antenatal clinic at umaru shehu ultra-modern hospital in Maiduguri A total number of 17 samples are collected randomly among the pregnant women in the study area and examined, which only 8(47%) were infected and the remaining 9(53%) were not infected.The samples were ingested with only two kinds of intestinal parasites, which are Emtomoebe Histolytica and Ascaris Lumbricoide. 3 samples were injected with Entomoeba Histolytica and 5 were injected with Ascaris Lumbricoides, where the infected ones were less than those that are not infected. The research shows that the prevalence rate within pregnant women increases successively with an increase in age. This study concluded that out of 17 pregnant women 8 women were infected with intestinal parasites which are Entomoeba Histolytica and Ascaris Lumbricoides and that age significantly affected the incidence rate of intestinal parasitic infection. Effective treatment of patients and improved sanitary habits is advocated.
