DEMOCRACY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE IN NIGERIA: A STUDY OF ATIKU BAGUDU’S ADMINISTRATION, KEBBI STATE

This research examines the success or otherwise of democracy and good governance under Atiku Bagudo Administration. The research adopted a survey research design in conducting the study. The sample size of this study was 246 residents of Kebbi state. This research was conducted through the use of both primary and secondary sources of data which was corroborated by administration of questionnaire and the study uses descriptive statistical tools for the analysis of data gathered from the questionnaire. while the liberal democratic theory was adopted as a framework of analysis to explain this study. The study reveals that the administration’s efforts to enhance political stability, foster economic growth, and empower marginalized groups were commendable steps toward establishing a more democratic and just society. However, ongoing commitment and innovative approaches are essential to address the remaining challenges and ensure the continued progress of good governance in Kebbi State, it recommends among other things that promoting transparency and accountability is crucial for building public trust in government. The Government administration should adopt open government initiatives that promote the disclosure of government activities, budgets, and decision-making processes.
