AN APPRAISAL OF THE EFFECTS OF BOKO HARAM INSURGENCY ON ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE DELIVERY IN BORNO STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

Borno State has been embroiled in incidences of Boko Haram insurgency which has resulted into massive violations of human rights, such as access to healthcare. Causes of the conflict is attributed to religious, economic, social problems amongst others. The insurgency resulting in the misconception that western education is a sin. The misconception has led to destruction of schools and public properties such as hospitals and health centres by the insurgents. Thus the government has however, been putting efforts to meet the necessary demands for victims of insurgency especially who are currently camped in various IDPs camps in Maiduguri metropolis. The research appraised the effect of Boko Haram insurgency on the access to health care in Borno state the research observed that the problem of insurgency is a global phenomenon and recommends among other things for effective protection of human rights most especially right of access to education and healthcare.
