Abstract

ABSTRACT This study explored the narrative structures in selected storytelling podcasts, with the aim of identifying and comprehending how these structures help in shaping conversations and conveying meaning within podcast episodes. The data for the study were audio recordings from diverse podcast genres, which were carefully selected and transcribed for qualitative analysis. The data were analysed using frameworks from discourse analysis and narrative theory. The Findings showed that storytelling in podcasts goes beyond entertainment; it plays a key role in expressing culture, forming identity, and connecting socially. The unique mix of sound elements and personal stories in podcasts created a platform for varied voices and experiences, helping us understand modern issues and human experiences. The study also highlighted that narrative structure is crucial for creating meaning in stories and guiding their development. The analysis of narrative elements, such as orientation, complication, evaluation, resolution, and coda, revealed how they work together to engage listeners and create a deeper impact. The study suggested studies on different podcast genres and a comparison of narrative structures with other media forms to broaden our understanding of storytelling techniques.
