A DECENTRALIZED STUDENTS DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Abstract
In the digital era, effective management of academic records is critical to ensuring the integrity, security, and accessibility of student data. This project presents the design and implementation of a Decentralized Database Management System (DDBMS) tailored for Benson Idahosa University’s Students’ Records Management System. The proposed system leverages decentralized database architecture to eliminate single points of failure, improve data availability, and enhance system scalability. By distributing data storage across multiple nodes, the system ensures that student records including personal details, academic transcripts, course registrations, and grading history are securely and reliably managed. Unlike traditional centralized systems, the decentralized approach mitigates risks associated with data breaches, unauthorized access, and institutional data silos. The system incorporates robust authentication, data encryption, and real-time synchronization mechanisms to maintain data consistency across nodes. This architecture is particularly suited for multi-campus institutions or collaborative academic networks. The project is implemented using modern technologies such as blockchain-inspired data integrity protocols, distributed database frameworks (e.g., Apache Cassandra or CouchDB), and a web-based interface for administrative access. The resulting system offers a transparent, tamper-proof, and efficient solution for student records management, aligning with the university’s goals for digital transformation and academic excellence.
