Abstract

ABSTRACT This research paper investigates library and information support services for open and distance learning (ODL) students at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Nigeria. The study underscores the importance of quality educational support in tertiary institutions and the critical function libraries serve in distance education. Using a survey research design, data were collected from 43 distance learning students through a structured questionnaire. The study utilized a total enumeration sampling technique, as the population was small and accessible. Data analysis involved the use of frequency counts and simple percentages. Findings indicate that while various library services such as lending, digital reference, and user assistance are available, the satisfaction levels vary among respondents. The majority of the students expressed satisfaction with the overall accessibility of resources, but issues like difficulties accessing digital resources and internet connectivity were highlighted as major challenges. The ICT infrastructure was perceived positively, supporting effective communication between students and lecturers. However, concerns were noted regarding the adequacy of training and resources provided for the efficient utilization of ICT tools. The study concludes that while the library support services for distance learners at LAUTECH are generally effective, improvements in tailored services and training programs are necessary to enhance user experience and overcome existing barriers. Recommendations are provided for the enhancement of digital library services and the provision of consistent technical support to address the identified challenges.
