Abstract

ABSTRACT Schiff base ligand derived from condensation of Aminoethylpiperazine and leucine was synthesized and used for the preparation of Cu(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes. The synthesized ligand and complexes were analyzed by decomposition temperature, solubility, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductance infrared spectra and UV-visible. The decomposition temperatures of the complexes are in the range of 350- 250oC, molar conductance values are in the range of 40-14s/m.The infrared spectroscopy Indicates the presence of C=N group at (1580.5 cm-1 for the ligand). This signal shifted to the new frequencies of 1585 cm-1 ,1588 cm-1 and 1599 cm-1 in the spectral of cobalt, copper, and nickel complexes respectively. Solubility test revealed that all complexes and ligand are soluble in water. The analytical data show the formation of 1:1 metal to ligand ratio, the prepared ligand exhibited bidentate coordination and formed chelates of octahedral geometry.
