THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN RURAL AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (A CASE STUDY OF BAMA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA 1999-2007)

ABSTRACT From the beginning of human history through the pre-industrial period right into the twentieth century, women have occupied very negligible position in the society. They had for long been stereotyped as weak, unimaginative, in signification in economic; political and social life. This project titled "The roles of women in rural and community development" A case study of Bama L.G.A, seek to analyze importance of women contribution to rural and community development. It also examines the role women can play when they are within the corridors of power. To accord this, and in depth research was carried out with the use of primary and secondary data. Women's wield of power not only sees in terms of political aspect but also in economic, social etc. However, women's enormous economic activities contribute immensely to nation's socio-economic development. Therefore, it would be imperative to note that, when women are given adequate opportunity they translate into tangible reality more than their men counterparts.
