Abstract

This study examines the Influence of Social Media on the Academic Performance of Biology Education Students at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina. In a contemporary academic landscape dominated by digital interaction, the research addresses the growing concern that excessive social media consumption may be detrimental to the Grade Point Average (GPA) and study habits of undergraduate students. The study adopts a descriptive research design targeting biology education students. Key variables investigated include student addictiveness, exposure levels, usage patterns, and demographic factors such as gender and age. Data collection was facilitated through a structured questionnaire titled "Social Media and Academic Performance Questionnaire," administered to a sample of students within the department. The research utilizes Data Mining concepts (Knowledge Discovery) to understand how extracted information from large datasets can reflect students' academic trajectories.
