SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT ON MARITAL CONFLICTS ON FAMILY DEVELOPMENT IN BALI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

ABSTRACT Conflict, as a natural outcome of human interaction, is an inherent part of relationships and is inevitable within families (Bammeke & Eshiet, 2018). While conflict can be either constructive or destructive, its effects on families are profound. This research investigates the impact of marital conflict on family development in Bali Local Government Area, Taraba State. The study employed a descriptive survey design and an exploratory qualitative approach to achieve its objectives, which included identifying the causes of marital conflict, determining its prevalence, and examining its consequences on child development. Structural functionalism was adopted as the theoretical framework to understand the factors influencing marital conflicts. Data collection involved the use of semi-structured questionnaires administered to 384 respondents, with a simple random sampling technique employed for participant selection. The data were analyzed using simple percentages. Findings revealed that family misunderstandings, parental misconceptions, and poor administration within the household are significant contributors to marital conflicts and divorce. Furthermore, divorce was found to strain parent-child relationships and create uncertainty in children's futures. The study recommends that the government organize regular seminars and conferences to raise awareness among married couples about the implications of divorce and equip them with strategies for resolving conflicts effectively within their homes.
