EXAMINING SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCE ON INDECENT DRESSING AMONG UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS IN ENUGU STATE UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (ESUT), ENUGU STATE.
Abstract
This study was aimed at examining Social Media Influence on Indecent Dressing
among Undergraduate Students in Enugu State University of Science and
Technology, Enugu State. The Objectives of the study are; to identify the level of
exposure of undergraduate students on social media, to determine the influence of
media on indecent dressing amongst ESUT undergraduate. to identify the factors
that necessitates ESUT undergraduate students to dress indecently with the
University Community, to determine the effect of indecent dressing on the
academic performance of ESUT undergraduate students, to explore the possible
measures to curb the rate of indecent dressing amongst ESUT undergraduate
students. The survey method was used to examine social media influence on
indecent dressing among undergraduate students in Enugu State University of
Science and Technology (ESUTH), Enugu State for feasibility reasons. The
estimated population of Esuth students is around 1,807, 342 according updated
admission unit report 2023 of the school. A sample size of 399 was gotten through
Taro Yamane formula. The findings of the study reveals that the factors the
necessitates ESUT undergraduates to dress indecent within the University are peer
pressure, media influence, lack of proper orientations, desire for attention,
socioeconomic status. The study also reveals that the effect of indecent dressing on
the academic performance of ESUT undergraduates are negative perception,
academic distraction, sexual harassment, violation of institutional rules, erosion of
self-worth. The study recommends that There is need to moderate the ways students
dress to school so as to avoid infiltrating the academic environment with sexual
desires and harassments
