Abstract

Abstract, This project addresses the need for an efficient and automated floor cleaning machine tailored for Nigerian household applications. The primary objective was to design and fabricate a robotic system that autonomously cleans floor adornments with minimal user intervention. To achieve this, a comprehensive methodology was employed, encompassing the design of an optimal electromechanical configuration, the engineering of an appropriate gearing system, and the fabrication of a protective housing structure. The system's control was managed by a custom-designed Printed Circuit Board (PCB) and a microcontroller, which received wireless commands to control locomotion and the cleaning mechanism. A key aspect of the project was the comprehensive performance assessment, which included both physical testing of the prototype and comparative analysis with a simulation model. The results indicate that the fabricated machine successfully met its core performance metrics, achieving a high debris collection rate and demonstrating functional locomotion. While the physical performance showed slight variance from the ideal simulated results due to real-world factors, the project successfully delivered a functional prototype. This work demonstrates the effective application of engineering principles to design, fabricate, and validate a robotic system, providing a robust foundation for future enhancements, such as autonomous navigation and improved power management.
