THE IMPACT OF DRESSING PATTERN OF SECULAR ARTISTES ON THE DRESSING CODE OF MUSLIM YOUTHS: A CASE STUDY OF MUSLIM STUDENTS IN ADEYEMI FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION, ONDO

This study investigates the impact of dressing pattern of secular artistes on the dressing code of Muslim youths: a case study of Muslim students in Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo. Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from 50 respondents across various academic levels and faculties. The findings reveal that Muslim youths demonstrate a strong understanding of Godly dressing, rooted in Islamic principles of modesty. However, the dressing styles of celebrities moderately influence youths, often challenging traditional Islamic dress codes and introducing Westernized styles. Acculturation through foreign dressing practices is eroding traditional cultural heritage, although some youths maintain resilience in preserving their cultural identity. Key strategies for promoting decent dressing include the roles of parents, religious leaders, schools, and media campaigns. The study concludes that while Muslim youths remain committed to Islamic values, modern influences pose challenges that require proactive engagement. Recommendations include educational initiatives, parental guidance, religious advocacy, media campaigns, and cultural revival programs. These strategies aim to preserve cultural and religious values while navigating the complexities of global fashion trends.
