ASSING THE IMPACT OF SUPPLIER SELECTION CRITERIA ON PROCURENMENT PERFORMANCE IN PUBLIC INSTITUATIONS IN KADUNA STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
This study assessed the impact of supplier selection criteria on procurement
performance in public institutions in Kaduna State, Nigeria, focusing on 17 federal
Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) within their procurement departments.
Utilizing purposive sampling, data were collected through questionnaires employing a
five-point Likert scale to measure agreement levels with various supplier selection
criteria. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in the Statistical
Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23, with results presented in frequency
distribution tables. Findings revealed that performance history was the most critical
supplier selection criterion (mean = 3.91), underscoring its pivotal role in procurement
decisions, while environmental considerations were the least prioritized (mean = 3.46).
The study also established a significant positive relationship between supplier selection
criteria and procurement performance. These results highlight the strategic and
multifaceted nature of supplier selection in Kaduna’s MDAs, emphasizing efficiency and
reliability but revealing a gap in sustainability focus. The study recommends future
research to prioritize environmental awareness to promote sustainable procurement
practices in public institutions.
