EFFECT OF VENOM ON LUNGS TISSUE IN WISTAR ALBINO RATS
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The venom of Puffadder (Bitis arietans) was assessed for its effects on lungs tissues and ability to
induce histopathological changes in Wistar albino rats. The snake waS
captured in Kaltungo,
IG.A Gombe State and the venom was collected, milked and lyophilized accordingly. A single
dose (1.5mg) was administered to the test groups and the rats were monitored and sacrificed one
day, one week and two weeks, the Lungs tissues were harvested and then stored accordingly
Histopathology of the harvested lungs tissues was conducted using conventional method (Avwioro,
2011 and Choji et al., 2015), to assess the effect of the venom. One day after venom administration
the lungs reveals severe haemorrhage and congestion of the blood vessels. After one week and tw
weeks there was congested blood vessels in the lungs tissues. The results of this study indicate the
the puff adder venom cause damage in the lungs tissues of Wistar albino rats.
