DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC POWER SYSTEM IN PHYSICS DEPARTMENT, FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, MINNA
Abstract
The global transition to sustainable energy has increased the adoption of solar photovoltaic
(PV) systems. This study explores the feasibility, design principles, and implementation
strategies for solar PV installations in federal university of technology Minna. The research
discusses types of PV technologies, key components, design considerations, and system
performance evaluation. A case study involving the design of a 5.5kW solar PV system for the
Department of Physics is presented, utilizing 12V, 220Ah batteries, 550W monocrystalline
solar panels, and a 5.5kVA inverter. Results show that solar PV systems are not only
environmentally sustainable but also economically viable in the Nigerian context. The study
recommends improved policy frameworks, investment in local manufacturing, and capacitybuilding to drive adoption of solar technologies across the country
