This study examined the level of awareness and attitudes of pre-service English teachers toward the use of podcasts for teaching listening comprehension. The integration of digital tools in language education has become increasingly important, particularly in enhancing learners’ listening skills. However, the effectiveness of such tools largely depends on teachers’ awareness and disposition toward their use. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population comprised pre-service English teachers in selected tertiary institutions, from which a representative sample was drawn using appropriate sampling techniques. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods.
Findings revealed that while a moderate number of pre-service English teachers were aware of podcasts as instructional tools, variations existed in their level of familiarity and practical exposure. The results further indicated generally positive attitudes toward the use of podcasts for listening comprehension, with respondents acknowledging their potential to improve students’ pronunciation, vocabulary acquisition, and overall listening skills. However, challenges such as limited technical skills, inadequate training, and insufficient institutional support were identified as constraints to effective utilization.
The study concludes that although pre-service English teachers demonstrate favorable attitudes toward podcast integration, there is a need for structured training and curriculum inclusion to enhance their competence and confidence. It is recommended that teacher education programs incorporate practical digital literacy training to promote effective use of podcasts in language instrucHere is a **well-structured academic abstract** for your topic:
