Abstract

Neck pain may arise due to muscular tightness in the neck and upper back, pinching of the nerves emanating from the cervical vertebrae or joint disruption in the neck (Binder 2007). Binder reported nonspecific (simple) neck pain is caused by postural and mechanical stress (Binder 2007). Causes of neck pain reported in drivers are habitual forward head posture during driving, invariable jolting and driving seat ergonomics (Edmondston et al., 1997). Although driving is a major and important necessity for most individuals however, it usually generates pain in the neck both figuratively and literally and among professional drivers (Vos et al., 2007). Those who drive for prolonged and extended periods of time are more prone to shoulder and neck pain, predominantly if the professional drivers do not maintain good posture, adopting poor posture of driving lead them to neck pain (Omoyemi et al., 2015).This study was carried out on basic that there existed lack of data on the prevalence of neck pain among tricycle drivers of University of Maiduguri, Borno state.
