CHARACTERIZATION AND CHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF NATURAL DYES EXTRACTED FROM FLOWERING PLANT
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study focuses on the extraction and characterization of natural dyes obtained from two flowering plants: Ixora coccinea and Crotalaria retusa. Methanol extraction was employed to obtain dye compounds, which were subsequently analyzed using UV-Visible spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Spectroscopic analysis revealed the presence of flavonoids, phenolic compounds, fatty acid esters, and other bioactive constituents. The findings demonstrate that both plants possess significant dye-yielding potential and can serve as sustainable alternatives to synthetic dyes in textile and pharmaceutical industries.
