Abstract

This study examines the impact of digital transformation on operational efficiency of the Ondo State Ministry of Works, Akure. With rapid technological advancements reshaping organizational processes worldwide, public institutions face pressure to adopt digital tools to improve service delivery, transparency, and efficiency. The research investigates the extent of digital adoption in the Ministry, its influence on administrative processes and decision making, and the challenges encountered in implementation. The literature review highlights that digital transformation extends beyond the mere adoption of technologies to encompass the holistic restructuring of operations for enhanced efficiency and accountability. Key themes include the role of digital tools in modernizing service delivery, public sector efficiency frameworks, and challenges such as resistance to change, limited digital competence, cybersecurity risks, and infrastructural gaps. Methodologically, the study employs a cross sectional descriptive survey design with a mixed methods approach, integrating questionnaires and interviews alongside document reviews. The population consists of 210 staff members of the Ondo State Ministry of Works, with a stratified and purposive sampling technique used to ensure representative insights. Both primary and secondary data are analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. Validity and reliability were established through instrument testing and triangulation, while ethical considerations guided the treatment of participants’ information. The study aims to provide practical recommendations for strengthening digital transformation initiatives, enhancing service delivery, and promoting accountability within the Ministry. The findings are expected to contribute to academic knowledge on digital governance and serve as a guide for policymakers and government institutions in Nigeria seeking to optimize digitalization for improved operational efficiency.
