Abstract

ABSTRACT Toothpowder is mainly used to promote oral cleanliness of the mouth. It protects, cleans, polishes enamel, makes oral hygiene more effective, make the teeth smell nice and freshen the breath. Hence, the aim and objective are to study the formulation and evaluation of herbal tooth powder using Neem leaves (Azadirachta indica) and Mint leaves (Mentha piperita. L.). Neem and Mint leaves were washed, shade dried for about 5 days, grinded with blender to a fine powder and all the ingredients were formulated, blend into powder and add them to Neem and Mint leaves powders to produced toothpowder. After formulated, the study determines the antibacterial activity, mineral analysis and antioxidizing properties of the formulated herbal toothpowder. The toothpowder has antibacterial activities against Streptococcus mutans and Candida abican, good oxidizing agents and has appropriate amount of calcium contents (3873.50 mg/100g). In conclusion, the herbal toothpowder in this study has good physical and chemical properties, harmless, more effective and cost effective. Therefore, I recommend this herbal toothpowder to individual to switch on the use of commercial toothpowder to herbal toothpowder because of its antibacterial and antioxidizing properties.
