ANALYSIS OF SECURITY CHALLENGES IN IKARE AKOKO; A FOCUS ON ARMED ROBBERIES AND RITUAL KILLINGS (2010-2020)
Abstract
this research on armed robbery and ritual killings in Ikare Akoko from 2010 to 2020 has helped us understand not only the violent events themselves but also the deeper issues affecting the community—ranging from insecurity and fear to economic disruption and psychological trauma. It has revealed how social breakdown, weak law enforcement, and poverty can create an environment where crime thrives. The work also sheds light on the strength and resilience of the people of Ikare, their cultural values, and the collective efforts made by both leaders and residents to safeguard their town. This project serves as an important documentation for future historians, as it captures a period of crisis and response in the town’s history. For young people in the region, it is a reminder of the need to remain vigilant, value community safety, and uphold moral integrity. More importantly, it encourages youths to study their environment critically and work towards lasting solutions to the challenges around them.
