DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF ENHANCED HEALTH CARE INFORMATION SYSTEM
Abstract
The healthcare sector in Nigeria faces challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, a shortage of skilled professionals, and inefficient healthcare information systems. Many healthcare facilities still rely on manual record-keeping. leading to data inaccuracies and inefficiencies in patient care. This study proposes an Enhanced Healthcare Information System (EHIS) to improve healthcare delivery by digitizing patient records, enabling real-time data analysis, and integrating data mining techniques for informed decision-making. The system employs modern technologies, including Next.js for the frontend, Node.js for the backend, and MongoDB for data storage. Objeet-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD) methodology is used to ensure scalability and ease of integration with existing healthcare infrastructures. The EHIS enhances patient registration, clinical data management, pharmacy management, and reporting functionalities, aiming to reduce patient wait times, eliminate redundant records, and improve data accuracy. Security measures, including encrypuon and access control, are incorporated to protect sensitive medical data. While implementation challenges such as high costs and staff training exist, the benefits outweigh them, providing an efficient, user-friendly, and secure platform for managing healtheare information, The study coneludes that EHIS can significantly improve healtheare outcomes, patient satisfaction. and overall system efficiency in Nigeria.
