Abstract

*Abstract*: The increasing resistance of the bacterial pathogens to conventional antibiotics has intensified the search for alternative therapeutic agents, particularly from plant source. This study investigated the antibacterial activities of Moringa oleifera leaf extract against Streptococcus pneumonia a nongroup B streptococcus known to cause respiratory tract infection and other invasive disease. Anti-bacteria susceptibility test was conducted using agar disk diffusion method at varying concentration (10mg/ml – 100mg/ml). Results revealed a concentration depended inhibition of S. pneumoniae, with higher zones of inhibition recorded at 100mg/ml. Some test samples exhibited significant antimicrobial activity comparable to standard antibiotics, indicating the presence of potent bioactive compound in M. oleifera. The study supports the traditional medicinal use of M. oleifera and recommends further pharmaceutical investigations to isolate and characterize its active components. These findings contribute to the growing body of evidence advocating for plant-based antimicrobials in combating antibiotic resistant pathogens.
