Abstract

This research examines the socio-economic impact of the Udiroko festival in Ado Ekiti, evaluating its contributions to economic growth, cultural sustainability, and community development. Regarded as the traditional New Year celebration of the Ado Ekiti people, the Udiroko festival is a significant annual gathering that marks the first day of the traditional calendar and serves as a time for indigenes to pay homage to the Ewi of Ado Ekiti. +2 The study utilizes both primary sources, including oral interviews with traditional rulers and business people, and secondary sources such as journals and published texts to provide a comprehensive analysis. The research investigates how the festival influences local businesses—including hotels, restaurants, and transportation—and creates both temporary and permanent employment opportunities. Furthermore, it explores the festival's role in reinforcing cultural identity, fostering social cohesion, and promoting Ado Ekiti as a destination for cultural heritage tourism. +4 Despite its benefits, the study identifies several challenges that hinder the festival's full potential, such as poor infrastructure, inadequate security, and insufficient government and corporate sponsorship. The research concludes with recommendations for enhancing the festival’s benefits, proposing strategies for sustainability, and maximizing its role in regional economic development and tourism.
