Abstract

This study investigates the influence of social media on the reading habits of Higher National Diploma (HND) students of Mass Communication at Federal Polytechnic Offa. The research examines how various social media platforms affect students' reading patterns, preferences, and overall academic engagement. Data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to the students and analyzed to identify trends and correlations. Findings reveal that while social media enhances access to diverse reading materials and fosters peer interactions, it also poses challenges such as reduced attention spans and a preference for shorter, less academic content. The study concludes with recommendations for promoting balanced social media use to enhance academic reading habits.
