ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) POWERED MENTAL HEALTH CHATBOT FOR SEIZURE, DEPRESSION AND PERSONALITY DISORDER PATIENTS IN NIGERIA
Abstract
Abstract
The convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and healthcare offers innovative solutions for mental health support, especially in low-resource settings. This report synthesizes three related initiatives to design AI-powered chatbots tailored for distinct but overlapping populations: individuals with seizure disorders, those suffering from depression, and individuals with personality disorders, all within the Nigerian context. Each target group faces significant unmet needs – from post-ictal anxiety in epilepsy to treatment barriers in depression and interpersonal challenges in personality disorders. The proposed chatbots integrate evidence-based therapeutic techniques (such as cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy) with culturally adapted interfaces (incorporating local languages and examples) to provide 24/7 emotional support, psychoeducation, mood tracking, and crisis guidance. This unified document merges the background, objectives, literature, and methodology of the three projects, highlighting the potential of AI chatbots to bridge mental health care gaps in underserved Nigerian populations.
