CRYPTOCURRENCY-BASED PAYROLL SYSTEM FOR REMOTE WORKERS
Abstract
The cryptocurrency-based payroll system addresses inefficiencies in traditional payroll systems, such as high transaction fees, processing delays, and inaccessibility for unbanked adults, by leveraging blockchain technology to automate salary payments for remote workers. Employing a design science research methodology, the system integrates an Ethereum smart contract for secure, transparent payment processing, a React.js frontend with Tailwind CSS for an accessible user interface, and Web3 JavaScript Library with MetaMask for blockchain interaction. Deployed on Polygon’s Layer 2 solution, the system achieves scalability and instant transactions. Comprehensive testing validated functionality, performance, security, and usability, with tasks completed in under two minutes and gas costs within targets. A phased change-over process, supported by user training, ensures adoption, particularly for non-technical and unbanked users. The system reduces costs, eliminates delays, and enhances accessibility, demonstrating blockchain’s potential to revolutionize payroll systems for global remote workforces.
