BIG DATA ANALYTICS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION EFFORTS
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Environmental challenges ranging from climate change and deforestation to pollution and biodiversity loss continue to threaten ecosystems globally and demand innovative, data-driven solutions. This study introduces a comprehensive framework that applies big data analytics to support environmental conservation efforts through improved monitoring, forecasting, and decision-making.
The primary objective of this project is to harness the power of big data to collect, process, and analyze vast environmental datasets in order to generate actionable insights for stakeholders such as policymakers, conservationists, and researchers. Specifically, it aims to identify key data sources, apply advanced analytical techniques, and demonstrate how machine learning models can be used for environmental prediction and assessment.
The methodology involves integrating heterogeneous datasets from satellite imagery, IoT sensor networks; crowd sourced environmental reports, and institutional records. Tools like Google Earth Engine, Python-based machine learning libraries, and spatial analysis platforms were used to preprocess data, extract features and train some predictive models networks. Visualization dashboards were also developed to enhance data interpretation and accessibility.
The results demonstrate that the combined use of satellite and sensor data, along with machine learning models, can accurately identify environmental changes and forecast trends like vegetation loss. These outcomes confirm the potential of big data analytics to improve real-time environmental monitoring and support evidence-based conservation strategies.
