Abstract

Solar power system is a set up that uses Photovoltaic (PV) panels to convert sunlight into electricity. Designing and installing a solar power system involves accessing energy needs, calculating components sizes, installing the system, selecting the appropriate solar panel, mounting them optimally on a suitable structure (roof-top or ground-mounted). Connecting them to a charge controller (MPPT) to regulate battery charging and linking the battery bank to an inverter to convert the DC to AC power for household use. The Installation and dsign of a solar system starts by converting the energy coming from the sun to electricity. In our country today interrupted power supply has been a serious issue and it makes life difficult and unbearable be for people in firms, shopping malls, schools and business center depends on power supply for the day-to-day running of their activity. However, some have resorted to generators to enable them meet up, even with the high cost of petrol and the pollution these machines cause to the environment. A solar system comprises of inverter, solar panel, charge controller, battery and panel-stand. There are factors to consider when designing and installing solar system. It provides solution to the interrupted power supply problem we have and causes no pollution or health challenges to the environment. Unlike generators and soundproof systems which are reliable but has high cost of maintenance, it is recommended that Abia State University supply solar system to solve uninterrupted power problems due to its low cost intensiveness
