CORROSION INHIBITION OF MILD STEEL IN HYDROCHLORIC ACID USING GUAVA LEAF
Abstract
his research work assesses the inhibition effect of Guava leave on mild steel in hydrochloric acid medium. The inhibition effect of Guava leave on the corrosion of mild steel to in 1.0 M HCl solution at 308-330 K was investigated by using weight loss method and characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopic Analysis (SEM). The results show that the inhibition efficiency increases with increasing inhibitor concentration and decreases with rising temperature. The rate of corrosion of mild steel in both inhibited and uninhibited HCl acid solutions was found to be increasing with increase in temperature. Also, the highest corrosion rate was observed at the highest temperature (328 K). This observation was due to the fact that chemical reaction rates generally increase with increase in temperature. As part of my recommendation, it is suggested that finding effective inhibitors is crucial to preserving mild steel-coated structures and components. Guava leave is known for its ability to form a protective film on metal surfaces, which can prevent or slow down the corrosion process. Also, Guava leave is readily available and cost-effective, making it an attractive option for industrial applications.
