EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE (HIGH AND LOW DOWNFALL) ON FOOD PRODUCTION IN KAFUR LGA, KATSINA STATE
Abstract
ABSTRACT This research work was conducted on the Effects Of Climate Change (High And Low Downfall) On Food Production In Kafur Lga, Katsina State. The study reviewed literature based on the objectives of the study as well as the empirical studies by different scholars. The study employed descriptive survey method using questionnaires. The questionnaires were distributed to 100 respondents which were randomly selected as sample, the data collected from the respondents was presented, analyzed and summarized. Simple percentage frequency distribution ranking was the statistical method used in analyzing the research questions. Data analysis for this study involved both qualitative and quantitative techniques. Data from the surveys were analyzed using statistical software such as SPSS or Excel. The findings of the study revealed that both high rainfall (flooding) and low rainfall (drought) have had significant negative effects on crop production and the study also shows that high rainfall (flooding) has severely affected agricultural production. A large proportion of respondents (45%) strongly agreed that flooding negatively impacts crop yields, and 50% stated that excessive rainfall causes soil erosion, leading to reduced crop productivity. Finally, the study also recommends that, Government Support and Investment: Governments should prioritize investing in agricultural infrastructure to help farmers cope with climate variability and there is a need for policies that promote climate-resilient farming practices.
