Abstract

This study examined the impact of employee relations and job engagement on staff performance in the General Hospital, Iwaro-Oka, Ondo State. The objectives were to investigate the relationship between employee relations and job engagement, evaluate their influence on staff performance, and identify factors militating against their effectiveness. The research adopted a survey design, utilizing structured questionnaires administered to 62 respondents selected through stratified random sampling. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis were employed to test the hypotheses. The findings revealed that employee relations and job engagement significantly and positively influence staff performance. However, challenges such as poor communication, inadequate recognition, high workload, and limited growth opportunities hinder their effectiveness. The tested hypotheses showed a strong correlation between employee relations and job engagement, as well as a significant impact of both variables on staff performance. The study concluded that effective employee relations and job engagement are critical drivers of improved staff morale, productivity, and quality of healthcare delivery. It recommended that the General Hospital, Iwaro-Oka, adopt innovative strategies such as regular feedback mechanisms, employee recognition programmes, leadership training, flexible work arrangements, and career development opportunities. These measures would strengthen employee commitment, enhance performance, and promote a positive work environment, ultimately improving patient care and organisational success.
