THE EFFECT OF INCOME INEQUALITY AND POVERTY IN RURAL AREAS OF UNGOGO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, KANO STATE NIGERIA.
Abstract
ABSTRACT This study assesses the effect of income inequality and poverty in rural areas of Ungogo Local Government Area, Kano state Nigeria. The specific objective of the study is to investigate the relationship between income inequality and poverty in rural area. The methodology involved the use of structural questionnaire to gather primary data on 110 respondents in the research area. Based on the analysis of the questionnaire distributed and analyzed it became more conspicuous that majority of rural dwellers are low income earners. The result of the first hypothesis testing revealed that high income inequality has an impact or effect on the standard of living of the people. It was recommended that government should further strengthen democratic institutions to ensure that the current democratic era yields more benefits to the populace and not truncate it.
