Abstract

ABSTRACT The project Modeled Work Stress on Health Workers Performance in Plateau State specialist hospital using multinomial logistic regression. Generalized Linear Model was adopted in the research study to assess work stress among health workers in the selected Hospital in Jos city, North central Nigeria. All the health personnel of Plateau State Specialist Hospital Jos, Nigeria was considered as the population of the study. An updated list of employees was collected from the authority. The analysis was performed using Multinomial Logistic regression and Chi square statistic was also computed in line with the stated objectives. From the findings, heavy workloads were found to be the major source of stress at the hospital. Insufficient nurses’ involvement in decision making was also found to be a major source of work-related stress. The study concludes that the level of stress at the hospital is perceived to be high. This is evidenced by 95% of the respondents who perceive the level of work-related stress as high. The study revealed that stress is a major barrier to nurses effectively executing their duties. A proportion of (89%) cited stress as the major barrier to them executing their duties. It was recommended that the management when employing registered health workers in future are recommended to give privilege to male health workers. Training should be strengthened for them to gain from the retiring staff member’s knowledge. Management should provide such a platform for registered health workers to air their views.
