GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND PROXIMATE COMPOSITION OF CLARIAS GARIEPINUS FED WITH VARIED OIL INCLUSION LEVELS
Abstract
For growing aquaculture in a supportable fashion, the use of oil must be in correct amount as the animal needs, the source of oil must be depend on the demand of the particular species and availability. Growth performance and proximate composition of Clarias gariepinus fed with varied oil inclusion levels was evaluated. One hundred and eighty (180) pieces of Clarias gariepinus fingerlings were used in feeding trial for 10 weeks. The experimental diets were formulated using pearson square method and feeding was done twice in a day (9:00am and 4:00pm). Treatments including the control diet at varying addition levels were formulated; Control 6%, Fo1 3%, Fo2 6% and Fo3 9%. The growth performance parameters such as mean weight gain, specific growth rate, survival rate and proximate compositions such as crude protein, fat, moisture content, ash and carbohydrate were analyzed and calculated using standard methods. Data obtained were subjected analysis of variance (ANOVA) (p
