IMPACT OF GROUP DYNAMICS ON ORGANIZATION PRODUCTIVITY (A CASE STUDY OF YALE FOODS LIMITED,OLUYOLE ESTATE,IBADAN)
Abstract
The study investigated impact of group dynamics on organization productivity in Yale Foods Limited, Oluyole Estate, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The objectives of this study were to ascertain the extent to which group cohesiveness influence organizational productivity, group leadership and group norms on organisational productivity and to examine the relationship between group dynamics aind organisational productivity. The population for the study is 375 and the sample size for the study was 120 using Dilman (2000) formula to arrive at the sample size. Data was collected, coded and analyzed through the use of the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 24.0.Descriptive statistic comprises of distribution tables and frequency and percentages was used for data interpretation while inferential statistic te simplelinear regression and Pearson correlation was used to analyzed the data collected. The findings in hypothesis one revealed that pearson correlation value (113.177) and a statistically significant p-value (0.002) group cohesiveness significantly impacts productivity. The model's R-Square value (0.713) suggested that 71.3% of the variance in productivity can be attributed to group cohesiveness. The findings in hypothesis two presented an F-value of 4.533 with a significant p-value (0.014) in which the R-Square value (0.029) suggested that only 2.9%of the variation in productivity is explained by group leadership, indicating a relatively weak relationship. The result obtained from testing hypothesis three revealed a moderate positive relationship(R=0327),R Square value (0.242) showed approximately 24.2% of the variability in organizational productivity and significant F-statistic (45.000) and a p-value of 0.000 indicate that the relationship between group norms and productivity is statistically significant. In hypothesis four, the model's R-Square value (0.237)indicated that 23.7% of the variance in productivity is explained by group dynamics. The F-value (55.000) and significant p-value (0.000) highlight the critical role of group dynamics. The study concluded that group dynamics, encompassing cohesiveness, leadership, and norms, are integral to achieving optimal organizational productivity at Yale Foods Limited.Strengthening these elements can foster a more engaged and efficient workforce, ultimately driving the company toward sustained growth and success. The study therefore recommended among other things that, the company should focus on developing leadership skills, particularly in communication, conflict resolution, and motivational techniques, through targeted training programs. It was also recommended to regularly assess the performance of leaders to ensure they are providing the necessary support and guidance to their teams.
