UTILIZATION OF LIBRARY RESOURCES AND SERVICES, A CASE STUDY OF FEDERAL COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE TECHNOLOGY (FCAPT
Abstract
Libraries play a crucial role in supporting academic activities by providing access to information resources and services that enhance learning and research. This study examines the utilization of library resources and services at the Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology (FCAPT), with a focus on students and faculty. The research aims to determine the level of utilization, analyze influencing factors, evaluate the impact of digital resources, and investigate challenges hindering effective library usage.
Using a qualitative approach, the study employed thematic analysis to assess data collected from library users. Findings reveal that while library resources are available, their utilization is often hindered by factors such as limited awareness, accessibility issues, outdated materials, and inadequate digital infrastructure. The study also highlights the growing importance of digital resources, with users expressing a preference for online access to research materials, though challenges such as lack of digital literacy and slow internet connectivity persist. To enhance library utilization, the study recommends regular awareness programs, improved accessibility, expansion of digital resources, and the implementation of user-centered policies. Additionally, targeted improvements such as extended library hours, enhanced internet services, and the provision of training on digital resource utilization are suggested to create a more conducive learning environment. These measures aim to optimize the role of the library in academic development at FCAPT.
